Books on the Move: Alvin Ailey

Saturday, June 14, 2025 @ 3:30PM

St. James AME Church, 101 N. New York Avenue Atlantic City, NJ 08401

Step into a world where literature breathes, moves and inspires when NJPAC’s Community Engagement Department’s celebrated program, Books on the Move, comes to Atlantic City. Led by acclaimed educator and artist Wincey Terry, this extraordinary initiative empowers youth to transform traditional storytelling into an immersive, multi-sensory adventure celebrating artists of color.

During this public performance, watch as Atlantic City second-graders bring Andrea Davis Pinkney’s celebrated children’s book, Alvin Ailey, to life. The atmosphere crackles with energy as students take on the role of storyteller, using movement and their voices to offer their own authentic interpretations of the story of this dance icon.

Books on the Move has captivated children across Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties with its unique approach to literacy and artistic expression. Now, children and families in Atlantic City get a chance to enjoy these inspirational events as these young local performers demonstrate how stories can leap off the page and into our hearts.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the magic of Books on the Move and learn about upcoming programming. This performance represents not just the expansion of an extraordinary educational initiative, but a celebration of diverse voices, artistic heritage and the boundless potential of our youth.
