If you’re looking to take a deep dive into the performing and visual arts of the local Newark arts community (and honestly, it’s SO worth it), Hear + See: An Immersive Exploration of Art + Sound is the perfect way to do so. Hosted at the Akwaaba Gallery, the event is a beautiful collision and marriage of music and visual arts.
The evening will feature accomplished singer/songwriter Aja Moyé performing originals and reimagined/rearranged jazz, soul and R&B covers directly inspired by one of the pieces in the gallery. Before and after the performance, guests can visit the exhibits at Akwaaba, mingling amongst each other and with the creatives whose art is on display. It’s the perfect opportunity to see how the marriage of music and visual arts in a cohesive setting can: (1) transport guests; (2) uplift and enliven the community; and (3) provide a path for innovative collaborations in the future for hopeful and aspiring artists.
Aja Moyé is an accomplished singer/songwriter who marries soul, R+B and jazz into a sound that is distinctively her own. She’s performed at intimate, exclusive venues as well as fully staged productions at world-class venues around the globe, including singing the National Anthem for President Barack Obama.
