Get ready to get down when the Vacant Jazz Club hosts “House The Gap,” an event that pays homage to Newark’s house music culture. The event, put on by Thread, features talent from local DJs and producers while also providing workshops and mentorship sessions for aspiring music producers and DJs.
In addition to the performances, there will be a panel of local house music experts and historians discussing the history and development of the genre in Newark. It’s a celebratory affair of all things house music.

Renowned pioneer of House music Tony Humphries. DJ and Producer a true titan of the soulful Jersey sound. He was one of the earliest proponents of house especially during his time at Zanzibar in Newark during the 80’s and 90’s and has been a accelerator in spreading the electronic sound on both sides of the Atlantic.
Mark Francis, known as “the Human iPod,” is a renowned music producer and DJ who personifies the unique sound and movement of New York’s underground music scene. His passion for Deep, Afro, Soulful House, and R&B remixes has made him a force to be reckoned with in the music industry and taken him to the hottest clubs worldwide.
This event is sponsored and organized by Thread, a party and event production company based out of Newark, NJ that has gained a reputation for throwing some of the best parties in the area. Showcasing a diverse range of music genres, they collaborate with many of the most talented DJs and musicians, from beginners to international stars. Thread also runs a record label and produces original music. The company is committed to the local music community, partnering with organizations such as the Scratch Academy, Building Beats, Red Bull Music Academy and Boiler Room to prioritize music education and provide youth development.
