June 30, 10am-2:30pm

Harriet Tubman Park, 501-551 Broad St, Newark, NJ 07102

The 2024 Newark Historical Renaissance Black Ivy Ride invites participants to immerse

themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Newark, paying homage to the legendary jazz icon Sarah Vaughan while tracing the evolution of style and creativity over the last century. The tour also celebrates the founding of Arts High in 1931, the first public high school in the United States dedicated to the visual and performing arts. Event Highlights:
  • Tour: Explore the historical “Jazz District.”
  • Visit: Stop by the childhood home of Sarah Vaughan on Brunswick Street.
  • Performance: Enjoy a memorable rendition of “My Funny Valentine” by a soloist in 1950s period attire, channeling the spirit of Sarah Vaughan.
  • Meet and Greet: Engage with Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District (LPCCD), for insights into the history of this influential neighborhood.
  • Snack: Post-ride meal and commemorative swag.
