An exciting celebration of the launch of the new book: The Beat, The Scene, The Sound: A DJ’s Journey Through the Rise, Fall and Rebirth of House Music in New York City by DJ Disciple.

DJ Disciple, based in Brooklyn, NY, has toured the world over a forty-year career, playing venues such as Studio 54 in New York, Ministry of Sound in London, and Cream in Ibiza. His GRAMMY-nominated track “Caught Up” reached #1 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in 2002 and was later featured in the Showtime series Queer as Folk. He won an ARIA music award for his remix of Steven Allkins’ “The Bass Has Got Me Movin’”.

Jamara Wakefield’s film and podcast, Black House Black Joy about the New Jersey House Music Community is currently in post-production. She is a graduate of The New School for Public Engagement and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Following the book talk and signing, we’ll keep the party going with an after-party featuring food trucks serving up delicious bites and drinks. It’s sure to be a night of great music, lively conversation, and tasty treats.

Don’t miss your chance to celebrate the enduring legacy of house music in New York City with one of its most legendary DJs. This event is free and open to the public and join us for an unforgettable evening.
