Step into the mesmerizing world of silent films and immerse yourself in their most poignant and touching tales with a one-of-a-kind journey that is “Silent Reflections”: Silent Films of Love and Inclusion. The event begins with the 1919 groundbreaking film “Different From the Others,” which explores persecution, discrimination and the fight for LGBTQ+ rights in early 20th-century Germany. As the journey progresses, you’ll be introduced to a collection of contemporary short films from the International Youth Silent Film Festival (IYSFF), which showcases the vision and artistry of some of the brightest up-and-coming filmmakers of our time.
Adding to the enchanting experience is Nathan Avakian, a composer, songwriter and organist extraordinaire, who will provide live improvised accompaniment and his own compositions, specifically written for the International Youth Silent Film Festival. His stunning performances on the lovingly restored Kimball pipe organ in the Adrian Phillips Theater will take your breath away, as he blends contemporary and traditional musical styles.
This special North to Shore event takes place at Boardwalk Hall on June 18. Don’t miss this unforgettable celebration of cinematic artistry and human connection.
