In recognition of International Make Music Day, Arts Ed Newark is hosting All Together Now, a celebration of the summer solstice through musicmaking. This event – the opening event of its Self-Care Summer Initiative – features a variety of family-friendly music-making, playing, listening and awareness activities centered around creating and sharing music in community.

Imagine, for example, the thrill of joining professional NJ Symphony artists for a free duo performance and demonstration for the entire family. That’s the type of experience attendees can look forward to at this event.

Arts Ed Newark is a non-profit organization built on the belief that every young person in Newark deserves access to high-quality arts education, regardless of zip code or background. Functioning as an alliance of arts education advocates, the organization works to build collaboration among arts programs across the city, map access gaps, uphold quality standards and secure greater resources for arts learning. At its core, Arts Ed Newark is both a connector and a champion, strengthening the capacity of its partners to push for the systemic equity that Newark’s youth deserve.

Make Music Day—known internationally as the Fête de la Musique—is a free, global music celebration held each year in mid-June that turns public spaces into stages. On this one day, musicians of all skill levels are encouraged to step outside and play for their neighbors, transforming streets, parks and plazas into shared musical experiences. Celebrated in over 1,000 cities across 120 countries, it is one of the world’s most inclusive music events, built on the simple, powerful idea that music belongs to everyone and that communities are richer when they make it together.
