Before he was holding down centerfield at Yankee Stadium, Bernie Williams was a kid in Puerto Rico falling in love with two things at once: music and baseball. At 8 years old, a flamenco guitar his father brought home from Spain sparked something in him. Around the same time, he picked up a baseball bat and felt the same exhilaration. By 13 he was attending the Escuela Libre de Música, a special performing arts school, while also becoming one of Puerto Rico’s most sought-after young baseball prospects. The New York Yankees signed him in 1987, and by 1991 he made his Major League debut, beginning a 16-year career that would include four World Series championships.

But the music never left him. Since retiring his pinstripes, Bernie has returned to his first love, releasing two albums, authoring the book Rhythms of the Game: The Link Between Music and Athletic Performance, and assembling his Band of Friends for performances that blend Jazz, Latin and American standards. He is the rare artist who mastered two worlds, and now he brings that unique perspective to the stage of the Stone Pony for a night of music that swings as hard as he played ball.
