STEAM URBAN and the Newark Public Library are partnering to present a free, arts-centered Family Fun Day: An Interactive STEAM Fair. This event is an indoor-outdoor arts education experience for festival attendees of all ages. There will be six hands-on activations inside the Library set up in a round-robin style: 1) African Percussion using Recycled Materials, 2) Make Your Own Paints with Plants, Berries and Powders, 3) Edible Art Mosaics using Healthy, Seasonal Food, 4) Social Justice Graffiti Printmaking Inspired by Jerry Gant, 5) Improv Performance Art, and 6) Art Bots in the NPL Maker Space. Outside in the pocket park, there will be a DJ, food, seating and playground space for family rest time. Free, accessible and culturally responsive youth and family programming that is creative, engaging and fun while being educational and trauma-conscious is vital for our community. This program centers these needs by expanding access to STEAM education in support of the social, emotional and educational well-being of Newark’s arts community.
