This July, Short Stay Studios and Neighborhood Watch transform The Yard into an open-air cinema lounge that’s equal parts cozy and electric. Grab a seat on one of the blankets, beanbags, couches and chairs, pull on your headphones and disappear into the magic of movies under starry summer skies.

The night opens at sunset with DJ sets from some of Newark’s most beloved sound curators, setting a warm, feel-good tone before a single frame hits the screen. Then comes Short Stay Shorts — a showcase of emerging filmmakers doing something real and worth watching — followed by the main feature, a film chosen by the community itself. Rooted in Black nostalgia and neighborhood pride, this event is all about celebrating the local talent that make the Brick City a cultural, community and creative hub.
