Experience an immersive journey through the silent film genre’s most profound and heartfelt narratives beginning with the groundbreaking film Different From The Others (1919) which confronts themes of persecution, discrimination and the fight for LGBTQ+ rights in early 20th century Germany and concluding with a selection of contemporary short films from the International Youth Silent Film Festival (IYSFF) celebrating diversity and inclusion as seen through the eyes of today’s brightest up-and-coming filmmakers. Nathan Avakian will perform live improvised accompaniment as well as his own compositions written specifically for the IYSFF on the legendary Kimball pipe organ in the Adrian Phillips Theater. This unique celebration of cinematic artistry and human connection is not to be missed.
