This June, Our Community Grocery Store transforms into the most electric room in the South Ward with Groceries & Grooves. What starts as a familiar neighborhood space becomes a full-scale celebration of Newark’s homegrown artistry.


Featuring 4 to 6 live musicians, a featured comedian, open mic moments and audience participation that puts community at the center of every set, this is what Brick City is all about: real talent, real stories and real community.


The artists on this stage are your neighbors, and the stories they tell are yours too. Newark’s deep legacy of Black musical excellence, sharp comedy and neighborhood pride is on full display, alive, breathing and performing three feet in front of you.


Groceries & Grooves is a collaboration between Clinton Hill Community Action’s Our Community Grocery Store, Right Now with Rhenotha (formerly Single Lady Chronicles) and Frances North Productions. Together, they are turning an everyday destination into a cultural landmark, one unforgettable evening at a time.
