This June, step into Illuminated Hustle Dance Party 2026, where for roughly two hours, everyone inside — regardless of whether they have ever danced a step in their life — is part of the show.

The evening is anchored by Abdiel Jacobsen, former Principal Dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company and one of the country’s most passionate advocates for the Hustle. Abdiel will guide attendees through the dance’s origins in the early 1970s, its ties to civil rights, gay rights and women’s movements, and its enduring place in American culture — all while getting you moving. Alongside him, world-renowned DJ Natasha Diggs, co-founder of Soul in the Horn, provides a deep, driving soundtrack that keeps the momentum going strong.

The night moves through spotlight performances by Abdiel and Kristine Bendul, guided instruction for newcomers and experienced dancers alike and open social dancing where the floor belongs to everyone. Luminous Abstract layers the space with immersive visual projections that shift the Carousel Building into something genuinely otherworldly.

This event is free and open to all. It is presented by Asbury Park Dance Festival, Dance Is Life, Luminous Abstract, and Wooden Walls Project — organizations that believe dance belongs in the streets, not just on stages.
