​​Born on a magical December night at Burlington’s legendary Nectar’s, the trio of drummer Russ Lawton, guitarist Scott Metzger and keyboardist Ray Paczkowski went beyond forming a band and instead discovered a sound wholly their own. Tight as a coiled spring, yet also free as an open highway, LaMP creates music driven by a chemistry that can’t be manufactured or replicated. It simply has to be felt.

Metzger is a Village Voice-acclaimed guitarist and member of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. Lawton and Paczkowski bring decades of synergy forged through Trey Anastasio Band and Soule Monde. Together as LaMP, they are simply in a class of their own.

LaMP’s live shows are something rare and truly special. Paczkowski’s swirling organ and clavinet weave with Metzger’s acrobatic telecaster work while Lawton’s unflappable backbeat holds everything together with deep-pocket authority. There are moments of delicate melodic beauty and moments where the groove locks in so hard that everyone in the room moves as one, totally transfixed and in the pocket. Thanks to the band’s improvisational prowess, every night is different. And every set is a conversation between three musicians who have logged thousands of hours together — and still manage to surprise each other with new and inventive performances. Always evolving their sound, their newest work is edgier and grittier, reflecting a band with more attitude, mileage and fire than ever before.
