New Davonhaime Food Bank Distribution Day

06/24/24 - 06/25/24 @ 2:00pm

Project for Empty Space, 110 Edison Place, Newark

Get ready for a special edition of the New Davonhaime Food Bank Distribution Day, brought to you by Leroy’s Luncheon and hosted at Project for Empty Space’s new gallery space at 110 Edison Place. This unique food bank uses art to shed light on food insecurity and tackle it head-on, while also providing non-location specific food distributions to those in need. And this time, they’re doing it in style with 100 canvas tote bags full of delicious, nutritious, perishable and shelf stable foods, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

But that’s not all! As a special treat, we’re also holding a giveaway featuring exquisite small sculptures from New Davonhaime Food Bank founder and talented crafter Azikiwe Mohammed. All proceeds will go towards supporting future food distributions and ensuring that everyone has access to the food they need to thrive.

If you haven’t heard of Azikiwe Mohammed yet, you’re in for a treat. This visionary artist has crafted physical spaces that embody the stories of Black people and their connection to the land, both physical and emotional. His works have graced galleries and public spaces all over the country, from New York to California, and he’s been recognized with grants and awards from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, the Rauschenberg Artists Fund, and more.

* NTS Official Selections: Azikiwe Mohammed/New Davonhaime Food Bank
