This June, experience a dynamic celebration of jazz, soul, funk and Civil Rights music when Newark Arts proudly presents The Antoinette Montague Experience in “Blues Is The Roots,” featuring a proud daughter of Brick City, Antoinette Montague.
Montague is an internationally acclaimed jazz and blues vocalist, educator and cultural ambassador who consistently delivers unforgettable, soul-stirring performances. Known as Jazz Woman to the Rescue!, she brings passion, storytelling and deep musical authenticity to every stage.
A recipient of the Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Hero Award, as well as multiple New Jersey Senate and Jersey City Community Awareness Series honors, Antoinette’s impact spans performance, education and community leadership. She was also named Educator of the Year (2025) by the Newark School of the Arts.
Her artistry has reached global audiences and includes performances at legendary venues like Blue Note Jazz Club and Birdland as well as international festivals across Israel, Russia and South Korea. She is a featured vocalist on the Grammy-nominated Vox Humana and appeared as a lead character on the Emmy-nominated television show George to the Rescue.
Whether moving audiences to tears with “I Loves You Porgy” or bringing them to their feet with “Let the Good Times Roll,” Antoinette Montague embodies the spirit of the music. As she often reminds us, echoing Willie Dixon: “Blues is the root; everything else is the fruit.”
