Artist-in-Residence Exhibition feat. Stephen Aljian

06/15/24 - 05/16/24 @ 11:00am

Trinity Church, Asbury Park

Art lovers, experience the exceptional work of Trinity Church’s inaugural Artist-in-Residence, Stephen Aljian, who will present an exhibition of works created during his 2023-24 year-long residency. Aljian is a painter and former director of NYC’s Christminster Gallery whose resume also includes notable shows at The Drawing Center, PS1, PPOW and Feature Gallery, as well as exhibits at Germany’s Zellermayer and the UK’s Horsebridge Arts Center. His current work, which will be on display at Trinity Church from June 15-16, is an exploration of pieces inspired by the forced migration of two disparate groups of people – his own family in the wake of the Armenian genocide from 1915-1917, and that of the Lenni Lenape tribe of NJ.

Trinity Church is committed to arts and culture, as well as social justice – including food security, affordable housing, racial equity and LGBTQ+ rights. It makes perfect sense that the artist they chose to be their first artist in residence would be an artist such as Aljian. With powerful pieces that evoke a myriad of emotions and spur thought-provoking conversations, he captures the harrowing experience of having to leave home. Don’t miss this breathtaking and thought-provoking exhibit, as part of the Prudential presents North to Shore Festival.
