Cultivating Advocacy: Leveraging the Arts for Food Justice

Wed, June 12, 2024 @ 4pm

Virtual - Zoom

Join us for a dynamic panel where artists, activists and experts will share insights into how creativity can be harnessed to raise awareness, drive policy change, and foster community engagement in the fight against food insecurity and inequality. From visual art installations to performance pieces and storytelling, to culinary arts, we’ll examine diverse forms of creative expression that inspire action and challenge systemic injustices within our food systems. Whether you’re an advocate, an artist looking to make a difference or simply passionate about social justice, this virtual panel offers an opportunity to explore innovative approaches to addressing food equity issues in New Jersey and beyond.

The conversation features a spoken word performance by panelist Elisabet Velazquez, Poet and Author of When We Make It: A Nuyorican Novel (Dial Books, 2022).

The panel will be moderated by Triada Stampas, President and CEO of Fulfill.

Our panelists also include:

Lindsay Erben, Director of Arts Institute of Middlesex County and Share Your Foodways program

Hiram Larew, Founder, Poetry X Hunger

Carolina Moratti, Host, Cooking Outside the Box

Sponsored By: Horizon RWJ Barnabas Health
